Acidic color doesn’t need to open the cuticle, since the pigment is deposited on the outside and subtly inside the fiber, without altering the hair’s natural melanin content, compared with alkaline color that does change the hair’s structure, since it needs to open the cuticle to deposit the color on the innermost layer of the hair.
